Herbs
1) Mullein – Mullein is an expectorant that helps the body cough up phlegm. It also helps to reduce the creation of mucous, and is a great herb, overall, for coughs and congestion.
2) Dandelion – Dandelion supports the liver in detoxifying, especially during an illness. It is important to gently rid your body of the toxins that may be weakening your immune system that is trying to fight the cough and cold.
3) Marshmallow Root – Marshmallow root protects the body’s mucous membranes which are commonly agitated during a cold. The root also relieves irritation of a dry cough.
4) Fenugreek – Fenugreek reduces inflammation in the body. The reduced inflammation allows your body to begin to heal and repair itself.
How to Make a Cold Remedy Tincture
First, fill a glass jar with all of your herbs and mix. The herbs are measured in equal parts meaning you could do a tablespoon of each or 1/4 cup of each depending on how much tincture you want to make.

Add in the glycerin until it is an inch above herbs. Be sure to mix as you pour to make sure the glycerin is getting to the bottom. Glycerin is thick so once it has settled, you might realize that you need to add a bit more.
Let the jar sit in a sunny spot for 6-8 weeks.
In a clean jar, place a funnel in the top, and fill the funnel with a coffee filter. Pour your tincture mixture in the funnel and let it sit there for several hours as it slowly filters through. It is important to get all plant matter out of the tincture in order to keep it fresh and shelf stable.
Once the tincture if filtered, place the funnel in each tincture bottle and fill until an inch of the neck of the bottle.
Seal with dropper cap and store in a cool dark place. I love using an embossing labeler to give my jars a vintage look!
Take this tincture several times a day when fighting a cough. The tincture can be used with children and adults.
This cough and cold tincture is a gentle cough remedy that works WITH your body to help it heal. Prep a batch of this simple tincture and enjoy all cold season long!
