Ingredients for Tallow Face Balm

Tallow – Tallow is pure, rendered beef fat that is solid at room temperature. Tallow contains vitamins such as A, D, K, E, and B12 that naturally nourish and moisturize the the skin.

Castor Oil – Castor oil is antibacterial and can kill bacteria on the skin that might create acne. It is also anti-inflammatory therefore it can soothe inflammation on the face as well as moisturize.

How to Make Tallow Face Balm

First, begin infusing the castor oil with equal parts calendula, chamomile, burdock root, and rose hips. Pour enough castor oil in the jar to cover the herbs.

Leave the herbs in a sunny windowsill for 6 weeks or place the oil mixture jar in a crockpot filled with water on warm for 4 hours.

Once the oil is infused, strain the oil into a clean jar.

In a mixing bowl, put in room temperature tallow and the herbal infused castor oil. Use a whisk attachment or handheld mixer to whip the mixture until it is fluffy and smooth.

Place the tallow balm in amber glass jars to preserve the freshness and just dip the pad of your finger into the balm to apply to the face. A little goes a long way.

  • Whipped Tallow Balm
  • 1 cup tallow (for skin care or soap making)

  • 4 tbsp herbal-infused castor oil

  • 20 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
